Sree Mahalingeswara Temple: A Sacred Abode of Lord Shiva with Legendary Roots and Timeless Artistry

Sree Mahalingeswara Temple is a significant Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is renowned for its unique architectural style, rich history, and cultural significance. The temple is an important pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Shiva and attracts visitors from various parts of India and abroad.

According to legend, it was the place where the battle, ‘Kiratha Yudham’ took place between Lord Shiva and Arjuna. This beautiful shrine is believed to be built by Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers. But this ancient temple was relocated on the southern banks of Payaswini River in the 13th century. One of the great attractions of Adoor Sree Mahalingeswara Temple is that it has eye catching paintings and intricate carvings from the holy scripts.

Annual festival of Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple is celebrated in the month of February/March. Pilgrims need to travel almost 41 kilometers from Kasaragod railway station to reach this temple. The nearest airport is Mangalore airport in Karanataka which is about 88 kilometers from Kasaragod Town. Kozhikode International Airport in Kerala is approximately 226 kilometers away from this temple. With beautiful and ancient temples, Kerala is a center for spiritual tourism.
