Sivagiri Mutt at Varkala

The misty slopes of luscious Varkala are host to one of the holiest sites in God’s Own Country, the beautiful Sivagiri Mutt. These 200 acres of sanctified land is where one finds the final resting place of the legendary leader, saint and social reformer of Kerala, Sree Narayana Guru. Here also lies the headquarters of the SNDP (Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam), renowned for its work towards the the upliftment of backward classes. People pay tribute at the Guru’s Mahasamadhi at the hill summit, beyond which one can even view his humble residence, a place where some of his old belongings still lie.
