Description
In 1524, the Basilica of Our Lady of Ransom, also known as the National Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Ransom, was established by Portuguese missionaries at Vallarpadam in Ernakulam. The missionaries enshrined a painting of the Lady of Ransom in the church, and soon, local residents attributed numerous miracles to this sacred artwork.
The Feast of Vallarpadathamma is commemorated with profound reverence at this historical basilica from the 16th to the 24th of September. Each year, this festive occasion is marked with great enthusiasm across various communities, drawing a significant number of participants. The week-long celebration is a captivating spectacle for visitors, offering a feast for the eyes and a deeply enriching experience for the souls of those in attendance.
