The Manarcaud Perunnal unfolds over eight days, a time of devout celebration drawing thousands of devotees who immerse themselves in the grandeur of this annual event at St Mary's Cathedral in Manarcaud, Kottayam. From dawn till dusk, devotees gather within the church premises, marking the occasion with unwavering devotion and festive fervor.
Central to the festivities is the annual feast, culminating in a spirited procession during the final three days. At the heart of the procession is the revered "Rassa," a sacred golden cross. Pilgrims from all corners participate in the grand spectacle, holding aloft decorated parasols known as muthukkuda. The locally coined term "ettunoyambu" or "Eight Day Lent" reflects the devout observance of fasting during this period, drawing a multitude of believers from both near and far who come to pay homage and partake in the spiritual significance of the occasion.
