Children hold the promise to our future generations, and their dreams and talents need to be nurtured with wisdom and gentleness. That was the thought that led to the establishment of Malayala Kalagramam (MAKAM) at New Mahe in Kannur district. A centre for art and ideas, its aim is to provide children and youngsters a Kalari (stage) to practise and perform all forms of fine arts. Part-time as well as full-time courses in painting, sculpture, music and dance and art pottery are offered at the centre, along with Yoga and Sanskrit. The Fraternity Centre of the Kalagramam conducts seminars, symposia, extension lectures, in-service programmes and special projects in different fields of art and humanities.
The purpose of these studies is to enable the trainees to be familiarised with classical and contemporary trends and techniques in their respective fields of art, to teach them art application and history of art and to help them utilise art better in their everyday life. With an atmosphere that would capture the imagination of one and all, art lovers throng here. A day spent here among the tutors, students and the exotic library is a truly enlightening experience. Visitors are allowed to watch classes with prior permission from the Director.
