Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (fondly known as Ammaor Mother) is a world famous social reformer known chiefly for her humanitarian work. People come in large numbers to the Mata Amritanandamayi Math in Amritapuri. Over 3000 people live here, from both India and across the world, and have devoted themselves to self-realization and working for the common good of all.
Located in the small fishing village Parayakadavu, this ashram is a sacred place. It is an embodiment of the ancient Indian ideal “the whole world is one family” (vasudhaivakutumbakam). Devotees spend their time on meditation, singing devotional songs (bhajans) and doing community work (seva). Amma hosts darshans (meetings) many times a week where she addresses the concerns of the community. Testimonials number in the thousands and these proclaim the spiritual clarity and peace of mind one obtains on a visit to this legendary ashram.
