The Parasurama Temple at Thiruvallam is the only one in Kerala dedicated to Sree Parasurama, the mythological creator of the State. This 2000 year old temple lies on the banks of the River Karmana and is a holy site for ancestor worship. Part of the unique Balitharpanam tradition, it is here that people fast and offer prayers for the souls of the departed. Lying on the road to Kovalam Beach and 7 km from Thiruvananthapuram, people throng to the temple for its historical and cultural significance.
